Bod School · Lesson 1
Your group got banned overnight. How to move thousands without losing most of them
11pm. a 3k-member group stops loading. the admins have a couple of side chats and a member export from six months ago. next morning people are asking in other groups whether the old one still exists.
most groups don't die from the ban. they die in the 48 hours after it, when nobody knows where to go.
Before it happens
Have one fixed place that says where the community lives. A web page, a pinned post on X, a line on the project site. When a group disappears people search. They should find you.
Don't keep every admin in one chat. Two backup groups minimum, each with someone who can talk.
Remind people about the backup once in a while. An entry point nobody was told about doesn't exist.
The night of
Post the link first. Explain later. Do it the other way round and people drift off while waiting. Every admin posts the same sentence and the same link.
The first hours of a new group are when scammers show up, because everyone is looking for the "official" one. Say it plainly. This is the only real link, and admins never DM first.
The first week
People come back for a mod they know, not for the project. Let the old mods do the talking and answer the same questions again.
Skip the growth campaign. Fix the pinned message, the rules and the FAQ so a newcomer knows in five minutes they are in the right place.
You will lose people. What you control is whether the ones you lose were already gone.
ChatBod is the cross-language chat app for global crypto communities. AI real-time translation lets members who speak different languages talk in the same group.
