Bod School · Lesson 2
Token-gated groups: who they keep out and who they don't
launch night. a few hundred accounts join in ten minutes. same avatar, names one letter apart, all posting "DM support". the mods can't delete fast enough.
token-gated entry is built for that night. it doesn't fix everything though, and admins should know where it stops.
What it stops
Mass-registered bots. Each one now needs a wallet holding the token, which makes running hundreds of them expensive.
Drive-by spammers. Most ad accounts won't buy a token to post in one group.
Fake "official" groups. The real one is gated, the copy isn't. Members can learn to check that.
What it doesn't
Scammers who already hold the token. Holding proves a balance, not intent.
DM scams that start outside the group. Someone sees a question in public and messages that person privately. The gate can't see that.
A compromised admin account. The hardest one, because everyone trusts the admin.
What to pair it with
One line in the pinned message. Admins never DM first. 2FA on every admin account, and fewer people with admin rights. The gate handles volume. Rules and habits handle the rest.
ChatBod is the cross-language chat app for global crypto communities. AI real-time translation lets members who speak different languages talk in the same group.
